October 11th  2004 - Street V Yeovil
Surprise win for Street!

The Somerset winter squash league started last Monday night, Street finally managed to field a team to compete this year. A new captain has been found, Paul Walton and the team has undergone some player changes.

Unfortunately for Street they had to start their campaign minus several key players, luckily for Street Yeovil were in the same situation. Street capitalised and the whole team seemed to raise their game as they sensed victory, Street won all five matches comfortably. Next match on the 18th of October, home to Wellington. Spectators welcome.

2. P Walton  won 3-1

Street won 18-2

March 22nd 2004 - Street V Sydenham
Title slips away from Street.
Sydenham were virtually handed the title last night as nearest rivals Street lose 3-2. It was always going to be a close match, with Sydenham fielding 3 players from Bristol and Street choosing not to field their strongest possible team. It was a good nights squash with some very close matches which unfortunately went Sydenham's way.
Overall result
Street 8, Sydenham 12

March 15th 2004 - Street V Gatchell
Disappointing night for Street, Gatchell field their strongest team and Street go down 3-2.

Next week Street v Sydenham, a crunch game for both teams

Connock saves the day.
Street traveled to Wellington on the 8th of March hoping to keep their unbeaten record alive. Ashford playing at four made light work of Ward dispatching him 3-0, Webb on the other hand had a fight on his hands. It was an exciting match with exchanges between the players, the referees and pretty much anyone watching on the balcony as the two players fought for
pride and points. Webb eventually got the better of Anderson and clinched the win 3-2.

Pope and Walton never appeared to get into any rhythm struggling to get on top of their opponents, both lost 3-0. The overall match result rested on Connock, as the night was tied at 2 all. Connock now a few pounds lighter appeared to be in no mood for messing around has he promptly took the first game. The next game was more or less he same with Connock displaying some incredible retrieving whilst Abbott made some unusual unforced errors.
Connock went on to save the night for Street winning 3-1.

Street are now unbeaten since January.
Match result - Street 12, Wellington 9.
Next match is on Monday the 15th away to Gatchel in Taunton.

Avon League
Street Vs David Lloyd

Street played away to David Lloyd on the 15th of October, David Lloyd is a very luxurious club with all the facilities you could wish for. David Lloyd are favourites to win the first half, Street knew they had their work cut out.
Street unfortunately went with out their usual number three, so everyone had to move up a position and Simon Ashford came in at 5. Pope and Webb went on first, Pope never really got into the game and lost 3-0 Webb on the other hand kept his record intact winning 3-0.
Parsons and Norman went into battle next, things did not look good for Parson losing the first game 9-0 before turning things around to win 3-1 overall. Norman struggled to cope with the array of shots from his opponent and eventually lost 3-0. It was all down to Ashford to bring the win home for Street, Ashford started well going 7-0 up before the pressure took it's toll. Ashford lost in the end 3-0.
A good result overall for Street who are waiting to get their revenge when David Lloyd play at Street on the 19th of November.
Street 6, David Lloyd 13.

Somerset League
Street 1 Vs Frome 1, 13/10/03

This was Streets first match in the Somerset league, the defending champions team has now been split in half due to the promotion of the second team ensuring all players will now get a much tougher game. It also gave Street the chance to bring in new players from the club.
It was a very tight match, with the first three ties going to five games each. Both Webb and Connock were very unlucky, Webb now producing some of his best squash could not break down Borrett, and Connock ran out of steam in the last game. The third tie to five games saw Pope wear down his opponent to win eventually 3-2. It was 2-1 to Frome with Mattock and Baxter left to play, Mattock made light work of his opponent taking a comfortable 3-0 win. Baxter had a tough match against up and coming Brocks. It was a very tight match which unfortunately went Frome way in the end, but all credit to Baxter playing his first match in the top league.
Street 11, Frome 14.

Somerset League
Street 1 Vs Yeovilton, 20/10/03

Street played one their toughest Somerset league matches last night against Yeovilton. Yeovilton could prove to be the strongest side of the year with an international player playing at number one. Yeovilton came to Street feeling very confident, Street on the other hand had nothing to lose.
Street pulled off a stunning victory against tough opposition, Webb played the game of his life beating the Yeovilton star player 3-1. It was an excellent result for Webb who will surely be feeling rather stiff the next morning. Pope produced an excellent display to push his talented opponent in a very close match that unfortunately went Yeovilton's way. Connock and
Mattock also did the business, Connock's unorthodox style confusing his opponent to take a 3-1 win. Mattock fought hard against a very useful opponent taking the tie 3-1, 10-9 in the last game.
Baxter was last on court and struggled to find a way to break down his opponent who was constantly chopping the ball to the from corners, Baxter lost in the end unable get into the game.
A brilliant result for Street.
Street 12, Yeovilton 9
Next match is on Wednesday the 22nd home to Lansdown.

Street played their last match of the season against Yeovilton on Monday night, Street had already won the title so this was just bonus points.
Yeovilton are currently struggling for a team, due to the current war but managed to field a fairly decent side. Street gave two players form their 2nd team a chance to stretch their legs, as their league is now complete.
In was an excellent end to the season for Street, winning 4 out of 5 matches and taking a 17-4 victory.

League Record

3rd March 2003 - Street 1 Vs Merriot 1

Street played their penultimate game of the season on Monday night against Merriot. A good win could move the title within Street's grasp.

First two matches on court were Pope and Connock, both matches did not last
very long with Connock winning 3-0 and Pope 3-1. Burrows and Burleton took to the court next, Burrows also swiftly dispatched his opponent. Burelton now back on form had to work slightly harder, dropping one game on his route to victory.

Bambi Webb was last on court, he struggled in the first game before turning the match around to win 3-1. Another excellent result for Street, a win at the last match will see the title return to Street, the first time for 10 years.

Overall result, Street 18, Merriot 3

24th February 2003 - Street 1 Vs Frome

Street first team played at home Monday night to visitors Frome. Street beat Frome in the first half comfortably so hopes were high of a repeat performance. Street also had a squad back to full strength with the return of regular number 2 Connock. Burrows opened the action against Borrett, he appeared sharper than ever, he disposed of his opponent for the loss of only 3 points. Burleton entered the fray against Brocks, it was a one sided affair but Brocks fought hard in the last game before loosing 3-0.

Webb & Connock were next into action, Webb made very light work of his opponent Elsden using hard low drives leaving his opponent always stretching to reach the ball. Webb took an easy 3-0, Connock had to work much harder.
Connock has more holidays than the queen and looked sluggish on court the high altitude training did not appear to be any advantage initially. But Connock knows how to demoralize his opponents and last night was a perfect example coming from 2-0 down to win 3-2. Pope was last on court playing Brocks junior, all credit to Brocks who tried hard but never really pushed Pope, Pope won 3-0.

Another excellent result for Street who have only dropped two points in two matches. Could the title go Streets way, only two matches remain so watch this space.

17th February  2003 - Street 1 Vs Yeovil

Street played at home on Monday night to visitors Yeovil. Yeovil are struggling for a team at the moment through injuries and availability, full credit to Yeovil who managed to field a squad of 5 players under the circumstances.

Yeovil's vulnerability created a chance for Street to open the gap between themselves and Sydenham who currently are Street's only challengers. The night got off to a good start as Burrows made short work of Hatch winning 3-0, Burleton on court 4 mirrored Burrows also winning 3-0. Norman and Webb took to the court next, Webb demolished his opponent in minutes with the loss of only 3 points taking an easy 3-0 win. Norman appeared to have to work slightly harder than Webb but resisted his opponent taking a comfortable 3-0 win. With one match remaining could Street take the victory without dropping any points. Pope answered the question taking his game also 3-0.

27th January 2003 - Street1 Vs Wellingon1

Street made the trek through the pouring rain to Wellington on Monday night.
Street were without their number two, Connock who was away on business forcing team members to move up a position. Burelton also made a welcome return to complete the team to face Wellington. The start to the evening did not look good, a very off form Burrows struggled to find any response to his opponent going two games down. But Burrows dug deep taking the next game 9-0 and then the match 3-2. Norman went into battle on the other court, he never seemed troubled taking the result 3-0.

Burleton and Webb were next on court, Burelton had a shaky start dropping the first game before coming to terms with his opponent. He took the next 2 games and won 10-9 in the fourth, a bit close for comfort. Webb started positively taking the first game, but some questionable marking knocked Webb's confidence resulting in a 3 -1 loss. This was Webb's first loss in 10 games. Pope secured the match win with a comfortable 3-0 win.

Overall result, Street 16, Wellington 6.
Stuart won 8/10 5/9 9/0 9/2 9/6

27th January 2003 - Street 1 Vs Gatchel

Street traveled to Taunton on Monday night to play Gatchel for the last time this season. Street's squad were battle weary after being in action all weekend at the Somerset Closed competition, the overall winner of the tournament was Will Kingwell.
Burrows was first on court against Harford, it was a one sided affair as Burrows demolished his opponent who wasn't match fit 3-0. Norman was up next playing Griffiths, Norman lost the first game but turned the tables in the second as Griffiths who also competed at the weekend began to tire. Norman applied the pressure from game three, Griffiths eventually ran out of steam and Norman took the match 3-1.
Pope and Webb were next on court, Pope went 2-0 down as he struggled to cope
with his opponents height and reach. The match swung the other way from game
three as Pope started to play his opponent at his own game making him bend and stretch to the front. Unfortunately the first two games took their toll as Pope went down 3-2 in the fifth. Webb had an easy win against his opponent in the first half against Smith, this time Smith was more prepared as he made Webb work for his result. Webb rose to the challenge in his usual style lots of brilliant shots and winners taking the result 3-1.
Connock was last on court against Truman, Connock appeared to struggle hitting the tin more often than not. Truman sensed victory as he pushed Connock to the limit retrieving everything Connock threw at him. Truman defeated a very frustrated Connock 3-0.
Overall result: Street 14, Gatchel 8.
Next match is on the 10th of February at Wellington.

13th January 2003 - Street 1 Vs Sydenham.

Street traveled to Bridgwater on Monday for their away match against close rivals Sydenham. Street arrived to find Sydenham at their Strongest, with players seconded in to strengthen their squad.

Street fought back, Burrows worked extremely hard in a fantastic encounter against Parsons coming back from 2-1 down to win 3-1. Pope played Sydnenham's regular number four at the fifth position and produced another win for
street beating Popplewell 3-1.

Norman was next on court, the outcome of his match would decide Street's fate. Things did not look good for Street in the opening games as Norman went 2 games down struggling to cope with his opponent's pace. the tables were turned from game 3 onwards as Norman took control taking the pace away from his opponent and leveled the match at 2 all. Norman's confidence increased in the last game as his opponent started to tire and took the match 3-2, Street had secured the win with two matches to play.

Webb and Connock were last on court, by now the walls had started to sweat hampering players shots. Webb seemed to cope better than Connock and in his
usual hard hitting manner disposed of his opponent 3-1 unfortunately breaking his racket in the process. Connock was not happy in his match and things went from bad to worse as the match slipped away from him he eventually lost 3-1 to Mathias.

Overall a major result for Street opening up a slight advantage over rivals
Sydenham.  Final score, Street 1 16, Sydenham 9.

Next match on the 27th of January, away to Gatchel

6th January 2003 - Street 1 Vs Yeovilton

Street played their first match of 2003 against Yeovilton last night, this was a re-arranged match from 2002. The match seemed doomed never to happen as the majority of the Yeovilton squad are packing for the frontline in the gulf.

This spurned Yeovilton into fielding one of their strongest squads in an attempt to topple Street from their unbeaten run and deprive them of much needed points. A last minute substitution had to be made in the Street squad as their number four had work commitments, which created an opening for Simon Ashford.

Street knew they were under pressure, but refused to be denied the victory.
Stuart Burrows made short work of his opponent defeating him 3-0, as his game seems to go from strength to strength. Ashford, Pope and Webb were all on court next, Ashford and Webb worked extremely hard against very strong opposition. Ashford had to work the hardest of all clinching the match 10-8 in the fifth, Webb managed to win 3-1 with some amazing winners. Pope unfortunately had a very lack lustre evening, his opponent worked him hard at the front, Pope did not find the winning formula and lost 3-1.

The last match of the evening was Connock's, and what a match, it was a markers nightmare. His opponent was a very fit and talented player, but Connock has the ability to totally demoralise his opposition with unorthodox shots and amazing winners. The match went to five games in a brutal encounter, Connock's opponent appeared to switch off in the fifth handing Connock a much deserved win.

Overall result, Street 16, Yeovilton 8. Next match is on the 13th of January away to Sydenham.

16th December 2002 - Street 1 Vs Merriot 1

Street kept up their winning streak last night at home against Meriot 1.
This was the last match for 2003, the season did not start well for Street loosing their first match to Sydenham by a very narrow margin. The loss kicked the team back into shape defeating every team since the loss.

Street did the business again last night winning 4 out of the 5 matches.
Burrows made very light work of his opponent dropping only 4 points in the match, taking a comfortable 3-0 win.

Burleton did not seem on song last night and struggled throughout his match eventually loosing to his opponent 3-2. Pope dropped the first game against his opponent, but pulled the result back discovering a drop shot made all nthe difference in the 3-1 win.

Connock and Webb defeated their opponents without dropping a game, all credit to Connock who had not long stepped off a plane before arriving to play his match.

Overall result, Street 17, Merriot 4

Next match is on the 6th of January away to Yeovilton.

25th November 2003 - Street v Frome.

Division 1 leaders Street ploughed their way through the fog last night to play Frome. Frome squash club has recently been refurbished with the courts being renovated and the conversion of two courts into a health suite.

Burrows was first on court eager to gain revenge on his opponent who defeated him in last years county closed tournament. Burrows dropped the first game but reeled Warren in defeating him 3-1.

Pope made hard work of his match on the other court going two games down. Pope get his wake up call from Norman, and took the next three games in short succession. Burleton made light work of his opponent, taking an easy result 3-0. Norman making his debut appearance for the team, totally demorilised his opponent beating him 3-0.

The result was now secure with only Connock left to play. Connock struggled to get on terms with his player eventually loosing 3-1.

Final result - Street 16, Frome 6.

Street's second team also won again last night, they are currently unbeaten in the second division.

18th November
2002 - Street 1 Vs Yeovil 1

Another maximum for Street.

Street 1 appear to have found their form winning the last three matches with two of these 5-0. Street traveled to Yeovil for their first encounter of the season, the courts were surprisingly fast producing some fine squash.
1st and 5th strings played first with Burrows making light work of his opponent winning his match dropping only 5 points overall. Pope on the other hand left it all to do at 2-1 down clawed back taking the last two games 9-0 9-3.

Two wins to Street so far, Webb was next up and barely gave his opponent chance to blink demolishing him 3-0, Burleton on the other court also had to come from behind to secure another win for Street. By now Street had clinched the match with Connock left to play. Connock did the business beating his opponent 3-2.

Final score, Street 18, Yeovil 6. Street are away again next week to Frome.

***

11th November 2002 - Street 1 back on track.

Street played at home on Monday night to Wellington, Wellington were a much changed side with a new number one & two.

The night got off to a good start with Pope winning against Ward 3-0, Burrows playing on the other court did not have such an easy ride. His Australian opponent pushed Burrows all the way, going 2-1 up before burrows clawed  his way back taking the victory 3-2.

Hard hitting Webb was made to work hard for his victory, but blasted through the final game 9-0 to secure his win 3-2.  Last on court were Burleton and Connock, two very contrasting games. Burleton took the first game 9-0, with the result never looking in doubt Burleton won 3-0. Connock on the other hand had a very tough match going match ball down before stunning his opponent 10-8 in the fifth game to win 3-2.

***

28th October  2002 - Street 1 Vs kings Gatchel

Street played their second match of the season last night at home against defending champions Kings-Gatchel. A late call from Kings informing Street of a player shortage, eased the pressure on the team needing only two match wins to secure the result. Fortunately Street managed to secure a team, something that appears to be getting harder as the weeks progress.

Conditions were not the best but the night produced some excellent squash from both sides. Street secured the victory from the first and third string results. Stuart Burrows produced the win of his career beating Sean Heath 3-2, all credit to Stuart who has worked extremely hard on his game over the last few months. Steve Webb also produced a stunning display beating his opponent 3-0.

Overall result Street 15, Kings Gatchel 7. (4-1)

Street have a week off next week, but return to action on the 11th of November Home to Wellington 1.

***

14th October 2002 - Street's first team played home last night to Sydenham, both teams were struggling to field a team. Street had to have a last minute substitution due to their number one pulling out.

It was an excellent nights squash with the result unfortunately not going Street's way. The match was decided by the last game of the evening the number one's putting on a crowd pleasing performance. The match went the full distance with Street's number one loosing in the fifth.

Overall result, Street 10, Sydenham 14.
